Aviation: an accident kills two

Two people lost their lives on Friday following a seaplane accident far north of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean.

According to the Sûreté du Québec, a distress beacon was activated Friday morning near Petit lac Onistagane, a body of water on the northwest shore of the St. Lawrence River, in the unorganized territory of Passes-Dangereuses.

Quickly after the emergency signal, the National Defense began research before finding the device. Two people, a man and a woman, did not survive.

Police were unable to say whether they died in a crash.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is leading the investigation in collaboration with the SQ. A coroner will also be assigned and an autopsy will be required.

In this remote sector of the MRC Maria-Chapdelaine, forestry and recreational tourism activities represent the two main reasons for visitors.
