At 56, she is carrying the child of her son and daughter-in-law

A 56-year-old grandmother has chosen to carry the child of her son and daughter-in-law, after the latter underwent a traumatic hysterectomy at the birth of her second set of twins.

Nancy Hauck, 56, can’t wait to give birth to her granddaughter.

“It wasn’t planned, but I’m so happy to have chosen to carry my son’s baby,” said the grandmother of four grandchildren.

His son, Jeff, and his wife, Cambria, tried to have children for six years before turning to in vitro fertilization, which allowed them to welcome two sets of twins. After the birth of their younger children, the young couple wished they had more children, but the doctor advised the mother of the family to undergo a hysterectomy.

“I suddenly had the feeling that I had to propose to them to be a surrogate mother, mentioned Nancy Hauck to the South West News Service (SWNS). I told my son, who was shocked at first and cried. My husband didn’t even know it at the time, but he supported me.”

After the shock, his son let this idea germinate, which made more and more sense. “I felt really grateful to have a mom who was willing to make that kind of sacrifice for my family,” Jeff said.

“I had been through years of infertility treatment in the past so I knew it could be complicated and I doubted she could carry my child,” he added.

The fertilization process

The 56-year-old grandmother also had her doubts about her ability to carry a child at her age. “But to my surprise, the doctors told me that I was in great shape,” she confessed.

Nancy Hauck has had five pregnancies in the past, all of which went well. She therefore began treatment in January 2022, then the embryo transfer was done in February. She immediately became pregnant.

“It was still scary, because it’s been 26 years since I had a baby,” she said.

As for Jeff, he was both “humbled” and “astonished” when he learned of his mother’s pregnancy. “It’s a miracle,” he admitted.

Nancy Hauck is expected to give birth to her granddaughter on November 5, along with her son and daughter-in-law.
