Soon, the morning after pill will be free and available without a prescription for all women, regardless of age. Before, this ease of access was reserved for minors.

In the event of unprotected intercourse, the price of the morning after pill can rise to 20 euros. On the morning of Wednesday, September 21, its next free for all women is very well received by the first concerned. “All women can need it, and there are also older women who are in a precarious situation, so I think it’s a good thing”says a young woman. Previously reserved for young underage women and adult students, this free emergency contraception is therefore widespread.

A pharmaceutical assistant from Grenoble (Isere) fears that it will become commonplace. “The problem with emergency contraception is that today there are many young people who do not use it wisely, and who will use it as a means of contraception”explains Carole Faure, who recalls that the morning after pill does not prevent the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases.

The measure should come into force next January, as will free screening for sexually transmitted infections.
