Belgium wants to save money: in Wallonia, the motorways will now be plunged into darkness at night.
The first sections of road died out at the start of the week, in Belgium. By Thursday, September 22, this are all the motorways in the Wallonia region which will be plunged into darkness, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Interchanges, which are areas most at risk, will remain lit. The objective is save energy, but also save money, more than 400,000 euros, according to the government. This still represents more than 20,000 light points.
Belgium was often mocked for its highways which are even visible from space. Thomas Pesquet had made a shot that became famous. For some time, in Flanders, a large part of this lighting had been removed. But in Wallonia, we had chosen to replace sodium lamps with less greedy LEDs. In Brussels, the lighting of the Grand-Place will be reduced from 11 p.m.
