The proposed law on the referendum of shared initiative to tax super-profits, launched by the boss of the PS and deputy Olivier Faure, will be tabled on Wednesday September 21, franceinfo has learned from parliamentary sources. The Socialist Party, which carries the text, has obtained the necessary 185 signatures from parliamentarians, from the Nupes groups in the National Assembly and from the Socialists in the Senate.

For several weeks, the opposition had kept up the pressure on the question of super-profits. The Nupes had launched an online petition, which collected more than 135,000 signatures. In addition, the Finance Committee of the National Assembly, chaired by the rebellious Eric Coquerel, is launching a flash mission on the taxation of the super-profits of multinationals, with David Amiel (LREM) and Manuel Bompard (LFI) as co- rapporteurs.

If the Constitutional Council validates this text tabled by the Assembly, it will be necessary to collect the signatures of 4.5 million voters to activate the referendum of shared initiative (RIP) on the taxation of super-profits.
