[Critique] “In struggle”, Fabien Toulmé

The French cartoonist Fabien Toulmé becomes a reporter-cartoonist with this beautiful work, in which he gives the floor to three women engaged in various social and political struggles. Direction Lebanon during the “ thawra “, the popular uprising of 2019. The activist Nidal accompanies, in songs and slogans, the dreams of change of a whole youth. In Brazil, Rossana tries with other women to prevent the eviction of her community by the local authorities who wish to build a vast real estate project on their land. Chanceline fights to defend the rights of Beninese women. This touching travel diary is sometimes not lacking in humour, especially when we see the ghost of the author’s former history and geography teacher appear in one of the pages, perched on a small cloud. With sobriety and an ingenious distribution of colors, the author reflects on the effectiveness of mobilization through a magnificent female trio.
