The three criminals Nordhal Lelandais, Patrice Alègre and Willy Van Coppernolle are once again in the sights of justice. The “criminal journey” is a new form of investigation. Unlike a classic investigation which starts with a crime to find a culprit, this one focuses on the life of an already known criminal, his places of residence, his movements, to find him possible other victims by taking up the unsolved cases that have crossed their path.

The pole devoted to “cold cases” is studying several names of criminals likely to fall into this category, according to a close source. For the moment, he has therefore chosen three: Nordhal Lelandais, sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of little Maëlys De Araujo and 20 years’ imprisonment for that of Corporal Arthur Noyer; Patrice Alègre, sentenced to life imprisonment for five murders, six rapes and one attempted murder; Willy Van Coppernolle, repeat offender, life sentence for murder and also rapist.

In total, the pole, whose creation was provided for in the law for confidence in the judicial institution promulgated on December 23, 2021, has already identified 193 cases that it is likely to take over. For the moment, he has only taken up 37 cases, indicated the Nanterre court during a progress report organized on Tuesday, September 13. Among these 37 cases, 35 are the subject of a judicial investigation: these are 25 homicides, seven kidnappings and the three “criminal routes” cited. The two remaining cases concern acts of rape and are the subject of preliminary investigations.
