New season rhymes with new home for the handball players of JS Cherbourg. Their “cauldron” of Chantereyne under renovation, this Friday, the Cherbourg handball players carried out their first home game at the Jean-Jaurès complex in Equeurdreville. And the least we can say, in front of an almost full room, is that the Mauves have marked their territory : 36-22 victory against Valence, on behalf of the second day of Proligue.
Apart from the ceiling, I still think I’m in Chantereyne! it does not disorient me at all – Léo Weber, winger
A week after their defeat against Pontault, the Manchois were very serious in front of their public. They led the game from start to finish. The match started at a crazy pace (6-5, 7th). But afterwards, the Mauves fly away. The JSC inflicts a 6-0 to the Valentinois (12-5, 15th). Fullback Lucas Jametal plays gunners, pivot Jason Muel begins his recital (9/9 on shots), and winger Reida Rezzouki goes on penalties (7/7 including five seven-meter throws). On the defense side, the JSC raises its tone and can count on a Gauthier Ivah Imperial (15 stops).
“We feel at home”
At halftime, Edu Fernandez Roura’s men have a solid lead (19-9, 30th). The second period is more in management mode. The drums of the Kop set the tempo of a Jaurès room which vibrates according to the goals of Cherbourg.
We had the cauldron boiling. Here we will have Jaurès with the jubilant public. Chantereyne will remain Chantereyne, it’s not the same. But we will always be behind them, in good and bad times – Sébastien, du Kop Mauve
The new ones also go there with their achievements, like the Argentinian Mauricio Basualdo (4/5 on shots) and the Spanish leader Rodrigo Perez Arce (5/6). “The new ones have adapted well, as long as it continues”comments Christian, a supporter. “The team is gaining momentum, it’s going to be tough”, adds Sylvain. At the end of the match, the whole Jaurès room is up to celebrate this success in style (36-22, 60th). “We put the intensity. We wanted it to be a cauldron here and to catch fire like last year. I think we did the job and we had fun.”says Jason Muel at the end of the match.
We couldn’t have asked for better. We put all the ingredients for a good match. Since we started the preparation, we have been left with a little bitter taste, we were not convinced. But there, really, we started the season, and it’s good for morale. During the preparation, we had no room, no home. There, to win like that, we feel at home – Léo Weber, winger
With these first two points gleaned this season, the Mauves are seventh in Proligue. Friday, September 23, they travel to a promoted, Bordeaux, during the third day of the championship.
