Guadeloupe is preparing for the arrival of tropical storm Fiona. Meteorologists placed the archipelago on Friday, September 16, on red alert for the risk of “thunderstorms” and “heavy rain” from 6 p.m. (midnight in Paris). All schools were closed at noon (6 p.m. in Paris). The prefecture recommends to the inhabitants “to avoid any movement” and “to stay at home”.
“Heavy rains generating numerous floods are to be feared during the next night”, announces the Meteorological Center of Guadeloupe. Gusts ranging until “100/120 km/h” are expected. Saturday, “the conditions will remain delicate with many more passages of heavy and stormy showers”continue the forecasters.
