Interligne, formerly Gai couting, describes itself as a telephone listening service for people who are concerned about sexual diversity and the plurality of genders.
In an interview on Friday, its director general, Pascal Vaillancourt, said he needed $300,000 from the Quebec government to keep this night service open and correct what he considers to be a lack of funding in the past.
If Interligne were to close its night shift, it would be ten thousand people who could be affected, he argued.
He reports having made other approaches to organizations interested in philanthropy, to no avail. The City of Montreal, under the administration of Denis Coderre, had agreed to fund the night service for a few years, but this funding was lost, which brings the organization back to square one, he explained.
