18 new deaths linked to COVID-19 in Quebec

The Quebec government reported 18 new deaths on Wednesday and a slight drop in hospitalizations related to COVID-19.

The Ministry of Health reported one death in the past 24 hours, 13 others occurring between two and seven days ago and four deaths more than seven days ago.

The death toll from the disease now stands at 16,512 since the start of the pandemic.

There were 1,591 hospitalizations, including 541 due to COVID-19, a decrease of nine from the previous day.

In intensive care units across the province, the total was 40 patients, 19 of them due to COVID-19, an increase of seven from the previous day.

The ministry reported 853 new cases, although the number of cases listed is not representative of the situation since access to screening centers is restricted to priority groups.

There were 3,595 healthcare workers absent for reasons related to COVID-19, up 125 from the previous toll.

A total of 190 rapid tests were self-reported for the day on Tuesday, including 159 positives. Since the government platform went online, 287,166 rapid tests have been self-reported, including 240,626 positive.

In terms of vaccination, 21,294 doses administered are added, for a total of 20,944,626 doses administered in Quebec.
