“I am quite shocked and I have the impression that this is an almost reactionary speech”, denounces Marine Tondelier, after the controversy triggered by the communist Fabien Roussel on Saturday September 10 at the Huma festival. In Essonne, the former PCF presidential candidate criticized the “beneficiary left” for not speaking to the rural working classes.
“The left, environmentalists should lead the cultural battle over our values and not go hunting in other lands. This bothers me philosophically”she adds, suspecting Fabien Roussel of using a “strategy to shock to get people talking about him”because “it is not the first time”.
Ecology: “We don’t know how to talk to rural France”
“We do not know how to speak to rural and peripheral France” within Europe Ecology-The Greens, says Marine Tondelier. “We must change our practices and change the way we speak to facilitate the integration of certain people”, she adds. The elected representative considers that it is not normal that “ecological awareness is rising among the French but not the scores in the elections”. She believes that “many people do not find themselves in the environmental movement”.
“We have a lot of work to do”insists Marine Tondelier, who mentions in particular the absence of a “incarnation” within the party. A party congress is being held next December to appoint a new leader. The current national secretary, Julien Bayou, must leave his post because of his election as deputy. Marine Tondelier is not an official candidate but some party executives have already indicated that they would support her if she were.
