Elizabeth II has left us. I cry… remembering that the monarchy still lives!
And his reign is not about to leave us. The royal family has always loved Canada, one of its most loyal subjects. Elizabeth II and members of her illustrious descendants have visited us on several occasions, delighting the federal government, which has always saluted the dignity of this great family. It would have been superfluous, I imagine, to reveal loud and clear what each of these visits cost Canadians: expenses of the order of $67 million a year. The royal family cannot afford the costs? And how can we forget the Governor General’s salary, which tops out at over $306,000 a year (not to mention travel allowances, etc.)? ! Why deprive us of Prince Harry and Meghan’s stays with us? These stays are at our expense, but who cares! They are people of royal blood! […]
Relinquishing our status as a subject of the British crown would require the agreement of the provinces, territories and the federal government. So it’s not for tomorrow.
I will retain from Elizabeth II a certain phlegm which was specific to her and which contrasted with the audacity of her colorful hats.
