The police received a call Saturday around 8:30 a.m. reporting a collision between a vehicle and a convenience store in the borough of Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, at the intersection of Sherbrooke and Ormeaux streets.
For reasons still unknown, the driver of the vehicle would have rushed into the business. Several cars were also damaged. The driver was confirmed dead at the scene.
Authorities said a pedestrian was struck by the vehicle. He was transferred in critical condition to a hospital center and succumbed to his injuries a few hours after the collision, said the Montreal Police Service.
An investigation is currently underway. A security perimeter has been established on Sherbrooke Street between Honoré-Beaugrand Street and Joffre Street.
