Dog lovers will be delighted this weekend; a large gathering of corgis breed dogs is expected in downtown Montreal on Saturday at 1 p.m. Between 200 and 300 pets will strut around the Shaughnessy neighborhood between Guy and Atwater streets.
As part of the 2nd edition of the Shoni market, the organizers wanted to mark the occasion: organize the largest gathering of corgis dogs in Canada.
“I would tell you that we are not far, we should get there,” said the general manager of Montreal downtown, Glenn Castanheira, in an interview with Quebec Matin.
Queen Elizabeth II, who died on Thursday, always had a special affection for corgis. This sad news could attract even more visitors, according to the DG, even if the parade was not organized in this sense.
“The theme for the corgis walk was back to school, so you’re going to see a lot of these corgis dressed up as school kids like they’re going back to school,” he adds.
An interesting culinary offer
In addition to the dogs, visitors will be able to take advantage of a culinary offer “that cannot be found anywhere else in Quebec”, with more than thirty kiosks on the street, and a hundred restaurants ready to welcome tourists. Asian gastronomy lovers are invited.
Montreal downtown wanted to continue its summer programming until the start of the school year, especially with the currently mild September weather. “It looks like Mother Nature has listened to us because she’s really there,” he says.
