(Ottawa) The immunization status of elected Conservatives will be in the spotlight when Parliament returns on Monday.
Chief Erin O’Toole has already announced that he and his 118 MPs will be in the House of Commons because they are all vaccinated or have been granted an exemption for health reasons.
But that was before the announcement on Saturday that one of them, Richard Lehoux, elected in Beauce, was tested positive for COVID-19, even though he was adequately vaccinated.
Conservative spokeswoman Josie Sabatino acknowledged that Mr. Lehoux was present at the caucus meeting on Wednesday and Thursday. However, she declined to disclose the number of unvaccinated elected officials who may have to quarantine after being in close contact with him.
Mme Sabatino said everyone was following public health guidelines which rule that anyone who has not been adequately vaccinated and has been exposed to the virus is placed in quarantine.
The Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, Mark Holland, says that the Commues adopt a way to verify the exemptions obtained by elected Conservatives. According to him, it is “statically unlikely” that there are so many exemptions within a group of 119 people.
