He will replace Ontario’s Liam Draxl and Alberta’s Cleeve Harper, Tennis Canada said in a press release on Wednesday afternoon. The Quebecer was not part of the initial list made public in mid-August.

This means that the Canadian team will be made up of Auger-Aliassime, Vasek Pospisil, Alexis Garlarneau and Gabriel Diallo. Denis Shapovalov is not there. Teams can, however, make three roster changes by Sept. 12 at 11 a.m.

“We are delighted to have Félix join us in Valencia,” said captain Frank Dancevic. We will play in a very strong group including Spain, Serbia and South Korea, so their participation will increase our chances of qualifying for the final stage in November. »

This will be Auger-Aliassime’s fourth appearance in the Davis Cup. He took part in his first match of 2019, in a qualifying event. He has since established himself as one of the best players on the ATP Tour. He notably won his first singles title in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Pospisil, 32, will be in his 24e participation in the competition, while Galarneau, 23, will be there for the second time. Diallo, 20, is the team’s rookie.

Recall that the Davis Cup finals are, according to the new format, divided into two stages. The round robin will take place September 13-18 in four cities: Bologna, Valencia, Hamburg and Glasgow. Team Canada is in Group B and will play at Pabellón Municipal Fuente de San Luis in Valencia.

At the end of the round robin, the top two countries from the four groups will qualify for the final stage, which will take place from November 21-27 in Malaga, Spain.
