“It’s great to think that, finally, for several months we will be able to do what we love, put on a show. We were each able to work on our paintings individually, to have our own styles. There are a lot of different styles, but that’s also what makes drag so rich.” After their appearance on the show Drag Race, the queens are back on stage for a tour in France. With Nicky Doll as mistress of ceremonies, the idea of this show is to “put the queens back in their environment”, explains Raphaël Cioffi, author and producer of Drag Race France.
“Their talent, to these queens, is not to have done Drag Race. They do Drag Race because they are great performers. So we, hop, we put them back where they usually live, the drag queens, on big stages.” After participating in the show Drag Race France, the show’s drags concocted an unprecedented show. “The gatherings of our communities are often reactions, are often fights. We often gather to walk, to fight. And equality is also being able to come together just to celebrate, in fact.”
“What it also says, this success, is that, well, finally, what we thought was a niche, what we thought were minorities, is not at all, in fact. It speaks to many, many, many people, in fact. I’m very happy that our communities, too, meet in big rooms like that because I find that we lack a bond, like that, social between us and big parties like that between us, big meetings. That’s what we saw during the show too, people wanted to get together, to celebrate it all.”
