The weather will not have been a black spot for everyone. Champagne winegrowers face a 2022 harvest that promises to be exceptional.

“The grapes have reached good maturity, sips of sugar and sunshine”. Vincent Tribaut, champagne winemaker, is a man with a smile on his face for the start of the school year. The combination of sunshine and sufficient rain resulted in a bumper crop. Exceptional also by its precocity, because its teams had to harvest everything in one week. But the wine is already full of promise, “especially this year, it’s really honey”smiles the winegrower.

A harvest that makes winegrowers, but also wine merchants, happy. “There is a lot of reason so after years of lean cows and very high prices we risk ending up with something more balanced so the consumer is a winner”, says Hugues Le Marié, wine merchant. Patience, however, because the 2022 harvest will arrive on restaurant menus and at wine shops in just 15 months.
