A new general practitioner has just moved to Évron, in Mayenne, which is the third largest medical desert in France. But patients must be patient to get a medical appointment.
Queues of several hours have been building up in Évron, in Mayenne, for a few days. In this department, which is the third largest medical desert in the country, patients are angry. “Nobody takes. My dog is better cared for. It’s demoralizing, we have suicides around here. People can’t take it anymore, they don’t have a doctor”despairs a woman, Tuesday, September 6.
With four fewer doctors, the shot is tough for the town of Évron. The former patients are a little lost and castigate the town hall, which nevertheless supports the medical house. “We have support that is strong vis-à-vis them. For the rest, I remind you that health is a state competence”, justifies Joël Balandraud, the mayor of Évron. In this city, the next two doctors are expected like the messiah.
