To Newquay (UK)a city in the southwest of England, a food bank is always full. Barbara Pearson is a 75 year old retiree. His monthly pension is 324 euros, half of which is used to pay his energy bill. “If it increases, then I’m going to have to turn off the heating. (…) I don’t have hot water, because I can’t afford it”explains the retiree. With energy bills tripling and exceptional inflation, the level of purchasing power of the British has never been so low for 60 years. The choice between heating and eating becomes a reality for many.

“You have people working in factories, you have school teachers, you have janitors. both ends. And now they become the new poor”explains Monique Collins, head of the food bank of Newquay. The UK has the highest inflation rate of Western economies.
