Kelly Witchekan, 22, was arrested late Monday evening, Spiritwood GCR said in a statement canceling the alert issued the day before.

His sidekick Melvin Starblanket, 33, is still on the run. He is 5’9″, weighs 160 lbs and has black hair and brown eyes.

Police are continuing to search for the suspect and are asking the public to remain vigilant.

“At this time, we have canceled the emergency alert. If an increased risk to public safety is identified, we will alert the public,” added the police force.

The DGC has not established any connection between this event and the investigation into Sunday’s stabbing at James Smith First Cree.

As a reminder, 10 people died and 18 others were injured on the territory of the James Smith First Nation and the village of Weldon.
