In the commune of Glanges, the inhabitants responded to the call of the mayor. Via a participatory platform, they contributed financially to the foundation of a nursing home which should open in the fall of 2023.
In the heart of Limousin the tiny village of Glanges. Just over 500 inhabitants, but not a business and not a doctor within 10 km. So to bring the town back to life, the mayor has a project: to create a nursing home in a disused building. The project represents an investment of 500,000 euros, so to balance the budget, the elected official appealed to the citizens, with a crowdfunding platform. Everyone can lend from 1 to 2,000 euros. The municipality undertakes to repay them in seven years, with 1.2% interest.
A young farming couple were among the first to participate in the project. They have been living here for barely six months and the young mother quickly realized the lack of doctors: “My little girl who is two years old was very sick. I called a lot of doctors around, but no one wanted to take her”. The young farmer invested 1,000 euros, an obvious gesture for her. In total, the health center was financed to the tune of 65,000 euros by the citizens, almost 8% of the total budget. Work should begin in February, for an opening in the fall of 2023.
