Despite the establishment of a curfew for the entire population, Guadeloupe experienced another night marked by looting and material damage.
Wild fires and looting continue in the streets of Pointe-à-Pitre and the rest of Guadeloupe, despite the curfew imposed by the prefecture, between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m. Masked men remain near the barricades of fortunes, made with the carcasses of burnt cars or objects looted in stores. A situation that has not changed for a week.
Initially in demonstration against the health pass, the demonstrators demand more aid, in particular at the social level. “There are people who have families to feed”, says a man. “We have the problem of drinking water, which nobody can solve on our island, we still have problems of asbestos, while asbestos has not existed for years in France”, adds a hooded man. The impression of being the “metropolitan waste” for some people. Events that do not surprise the oldest, while meetings are planned with the elected officials of the island in the days to come.
