The announcement had been in the pipes since Friday evening and the meeting of the Chamois Niortais against Quevilly (3-3) on the occasion of the 7th day of Ligue 2 BKT. End of suspense, the club has just made it official this Sunday afternoon: Rui Almeida is the new coach of the Chamois Niortais. The 52-year-old Portuguese coach joins the Niort club for one year with optional one year. He takes in his suitcases his deputy, Gabriel Santos.
Rui Almeida is a well-known coach in the second division of the French championship : he took the reins of Red Star in 2016 and then moved on to the benches of SC Bastia, Troyes and Caen. The Portuguese technician had been without a club since November 2020. A time announced in the direction of Lorient, a Ligue 1 club, it was in Niort that Rui Almeida found a bench and a team.
A big entry game
The Portuguese technician already knows that he will have a lot to do since the Chamois Niortais have only won two in six games. First test for Rui Almeida on Saturday September 10: the Niortais host Le Havre, current fourth in the Ligue 2 BKT championship.
