An impressive cetacean washed ashore, lifeless on the coast of Finistère, Saturday September 3. The reasons for his death are, for the moment, unknown.

After the beluga in the Seine, a new cetacean, rare in France, has been discovered. This time it is a whale, stranded on the Ile-de-Sein (Finistère). The animal is very imposing with its carcass of 15 meters and its 20 tons. It is in an area only accessible at low tide and prohibited by the prefecture, yet a few curious people came to take a look. “It’s impressive“, commented a woman.

A question is on everyone’s lips, how did the animal die and what was it doing off Brittany. The firefighters ruled out the thesis of an accident with a boat. “There is no sign of shock, no apparent injury to the animal. We took pictures, took measurements and passed them on to the authorities.“, assures Warrant Officer Jos Neysius. As for his presence, it could be due to global warming.”Sea water temperatures are quite exceptional this year, which could have led to a displacement of food for large cetaceans“, advances Cécile Gicquel of the French Observatory of Biodiversity.
