Residents of the Cholet aerodrome -and beyond- protest against the passage of a plane during each performance of the sound and light of the Puy du Fou. A plane – MD-312 Flamant from Dassault – takes off to briefly fly over the scene during the evocation of the Second World War. The synchronized and very brief passage is nonsense for Lawrence Davidpresident of theADENAAssociation for the Defense against Nuisances of the Aerodrome of Cholet-Le Pontreau: “For this scene of 10 seconds the plane leaves around 11 am or 11:30 am in the middle of summer, barely an hour of travel for 10 seconds of activity. I do not see the point of flying a polluting and noisy plane for an hour for 10 seconds (…) Puy du Fou underestimates the impact but it is no longer tenable”. The petition on my opinions.com has already collected 12 thousand signatures.
In a press release Puy du Fou replies that “in a show, the logic of emotion dominates everything else. This emotion responds to rules of rhythm and staging that sometimes require the onset of an effect to last only a few seconds, precisely to make it more realistic, stronger, more spectacular and more moving. The passage of the plane, which effectively only represents a moment of the show, is therefore in no way anecdotal”. And to add that “respect for the environment has been in Puy du Fou’s DNA since its creation“.
This season there are 4 performances left, this Friday and tomorrow Saturday, and next weekend, September 9th and 10th.
