The CAQ proposes to train 5,000 health professionals and 660 more doctors over the next four years.

The leader of the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ), François Legault, has set himself the goal of training 5,000 health professionals and 660 more doctors over the next four years.

He promises to “gradually” and “realistically” increase the number of admissions to medical programs to accommodate 660 additional students during the next mandate, that is from 2022 to 2026. “We will adjust the admission criteria in medicine in order to ensure a good regional representation of students”, specifies the CAQ in its electoral platform.

François Legault’s party also wants to increase the number of paramedic ambulance technicians. It also intends to set up a professional order of paramedic ambulance technicians.

The CAQ also wants to put an end to the accelerated training offered in particular to aspiring beneficiary attendants in CHSLDs and to nursing assistants so that they can quickly integrate into care settings.

On the other hand, François Legault aims to revise the sharing of certain reserved acts, in addition to integrating health care students into the network so that they can begin to “perform the acts for which they have been trained” while upon completing their studies.

“Employer of choice”

The CAQ aims to strengthen the ability to attract and retain the health and social services network so that it “become an employer of choice”. To achieve this, it will notably support the development of “self-managed schedules”, which will also improve work-life balance.

Further details will follow.
