DLC, DDM… The French do not always understand the different acronyms for food expiry. The 19/20 of France 3 takes stock.
Some French people are still hesitant to buy from the anti-waste shelves. They are still a bit lost in the different consumption dates. The DLC is the expiry date. The date is preceded by the inscription “best before”. It concerns the most fragile fresh products which can present a risk to your health once exceeded. The DDM, on the other hand, designates the date of minimum durability. It is preceded by the inscription “to consume preferably before”. The only risk, if it is exceeded, is that the taste is a little less present.
To avoid food poisoning, you must scrupulously respect the DLC for meat and fish, for example. Dairy products, on the other hand, can still be consumed several days or even weeks after their expiry date. For preserves, pasta or chocolate, we can even go beyond several years
