Yamina Benguigui’s view of Algeria and Africa is an African view. For her, Algeria is the bridgehead of this immense continent, an essential economic and diplomatic power in relations between France, Europe and Africa. She sees the Algerian diaspora as a cement between France and Algeria, a cement of which she is undoubtedly one of the best binders. There are many leading political figures and economic actors who call on the deep knowledge that this tireless ambassador of dialogue has of African countries and Algeria in particular. A woman of leadership, a woman of conviction, Yamina Benguigui is also a woman of heart faithful to her values and her origins.
It is to Algeria that she dedicated the “7 d’or” which she received in 1997 for her documentary “Mémoire d’immigrés, l’ patrimoine maghrébin”.

sisters by Yamina Benguigui, an award-winning film
The film sisters of the director was awarded last June, during the 18th Edition of the International Festival Cinema and Migrations of Agadir. Two prestigious awards, the prize for the best achievement and his actress Maïwenn, that of the best actress, were awarded to him. This film, Yamina Benguigui is very attached to it as she confided last year in an interview to RTS : “Our parents never gave themselves the right to put down roots in France because they thought they would return home one day. So we grew up a little in hiding from everyone and with the difficulty of telling and talking about our history. Because to speak of us or of our parents was to betray the word. With sistersI transgressed this silence, because I needed to make a committed cinema, and to go and carry this word“, she let know.
