After a salmonella alert in Belgium, a cake manufacturer preferred to shut down production lines. Monday, August 29, the Mikado, Granola and Petit scolaire are rare on the shelves.

In supermarkets, some cakes such as Mikado, Granola and Little Schoolboy are running out. Indeed, several production lines are shut down on Monday, August 29. This decision was taken by the biscuit manufacturer in June 2022, after a salmonella alert at its main chocolate supplier in Belgium. About thirty references are concerned. In August 2022, only 36% of supermarkets have Mikado, 46% for Granola and 55% for Petit écolier.

“It will get worse because a factory, when it stops, first, there is the time for major cleaning (…) after, there is the resumption of production. All of this will take weeks”, explains Olivier Dauvers, expert in mass distribution. The manufacturer preferred to take all possible precautions. “I guarantee that all products sold by Mondelez have no risk of salmonella”, reassures Amélie Vidal-Simi, president of Mondelez France. Within several weeks, a return to normal is expected.
