The Defender of Rights, Claire Hédon, calls in a report published on Monday to better adapt the school to the needs of students with disabilities, while the start of the school year takes place this week. This Monday on France Inter, Claire Hédon indicates that “complaints continue to increase” from concerned parents, even “if there is no doubt, there are more children [handicapés] educated”.
The Defender of Rights indicates that complaints continue to increase, in particular concerning lack of AESHaccompanying persons of students with disabilities, “for lack of staff and because of budgetary problems”, notes Claire Hédon. Complaints are also numerous about extracurricular time, where canteen support and all the time spent at school outside of class is very difficult for students with disabilities.
“What strikes me in all this is that the right of the child is not given priority: the right to education and the best interests of the child”, denounces the Defender of Rights. She thus wonders if the decisions that are taken in connection with the daily life of these children spent at school are not “for questions of planning, budget, organization”.
Claire Hédon still denounces the fact that too often these students must stay at home. “The right to schooling is not respected and there are children who will not go to school on Thursday morning because they will not have AESH to accompany them”. According to her, “all levels are affected”from kindergarten to high school, with particular difficulty “on the primary”. After, “it’s more about the organization of exams” who worries her.
