Nurseries are facing a shortage of staff. No less than 9,500 places had to close or remain unoccupied as a result. Untrained and unqualified employees can now be recruited.

After more than a month of vacation, Hugo, 21 months, is back to school. In Marcq-en-Baroeul (North), the two facilitators take care of him and ten other children. “You have to be passionate, you have to really love, be patient. It’s not given to everyone”, testifies one of the two. This company sometimes takes up to two months to find professionals.

To deal with this problem, the State has just authorized the internal training of unqualified personnel, over a period of 120 hours. “Some will tell you that 120 hours is not much, others will tell you that 120 hours is perhaps a lot. It depends on the profiles, the candidates and above all on the motivation they have to want to join the early childhood world”, believes Jimmy Dacquin, founder of a crèche. In another crèche in the department, however, they refuse to set up this type of express training.
