Drought: a plant to desalinate seawater installed in two villages in Corsica

To fight against the drought, two mayors of Corsica have launched a project to desalinate seawater.

To Tominoin Upper Corsicathe vegetation is yellowed and very dry. One of the town’s farmers assures that the situation has never been so worrying in six years. He must therefore find other solutions to feed his animals. “It’s going to be harder and harder because the price of food is increasing month by month and if tomorrow we don’t even manage to have water to give them to drink, I don’t know what we’ll do. TO DO”explains Pascal Vinciguerra. Like this farmer, many villagers are looking for water when the springs are dry.

To fight against this great drought, a borehole had been organized. “It is a borehole that allows us to draw water between 65 and 80 meters deep. So it’s a pump that collects this water”describes Francis Orlandithe mayor of Tomino. Faced with this lack of water, this municipality, as well as one of its neighbours, go to equip of a plant to desalinate water. That will allow to recover theto of sea. This solution, however, makes dissatisfied people who criticize this plant, which they consider polluting and energy-intensive.
