Will Remco Evenepoel spend the second day of rest in red? To do this, the Belgian will have to hold his rank on a new mountain stage, Sunday August 28. With a length of 171.4 kilometers, this 9th stage joins Villaviciosa to Les Praeres Nava, in the northeast of the peninsula. The route is similar to that of Saturday, with several difficulties and a finish at the top of a first category pass.
Before that, the peloton will climb the Alto del Torno (2nd category, 7.6 km at 6% average), the Mirador del Fito (1st cat., 9 km at 6%), the Alto de la Llama (3rd cat., 7.1 km at 5.1%) and La Campa (3rd cat., 9.3 km at 4.1%). These will be the last efforts at altitude, since the peloton will resume on Tuesday with a time trial and a flat stage before returning to the mountains.
