Drugs promised us a second mini-album just a few months after the launch of its explosive first songbook, in February 2021. So we had to sharpen our patience before having a new dose of rock, but the wait will have been worth it the shot.

We start the pedal to the floor from the first notes of Clichea rock track concocted by multi-instrumentalist drummer Pierre Fortin – the touch of the Galaxie veteran is more than ever perceptible, he who also signs the arrangements and production of all the songs with guitarist Jean-Sébastien Chouinard. Zero trouble is thus more fuzzy, more crushed, we make way for a few judicious electro-trash touches in a whole that remains irresistibly danceable, particularly in the excellent Not true.
Ludwig Wax once again puts all the gum behind the microphone – Cliche moreover brings us back with pleasure in the oozing Center-Southa nod to the days of his group Le Nombre and his aptly named Montreal sexy waitresses. Of course, sex goes hand in hand with the uninhibited rock of Drug – I’m comingin particular, refers to the salacious adventures of suburban dungeons – but it takes on a more cerebral dimension in Sex Objecta text by Frédéric Ouellet that explores the discomfort of young boys in the light of the #metoo movement.
american bison is another sobering rock headline when you bother to listen to references to the attack on the Capitol by Donald Trump supporters – “in this galaxy of dark matter, not much gray matter,” roars Ludwig wax. But in the end, there is above all something to dance to, preferably with the group in front of us on the stage. This will be possible in Montreal on October 29 at the Ministry and in Quebec on November 25 at the Anti.
