Agriculture: the apple harvest season has started

In the Tarn-et-Garonne, it is a tradition at the end of each summer season. Picking apples occupies several inhabitants of the department. Regulars confide in starting the harvest earlier this season than in other years. Indeed, it is two weeks earlier than usual. The very hot climatic conditions and the heat waves are the cause of this substantial advance.

The different episodes of heat experienced by France have an impact on the shapes of the apples. “We are going to have fruits that are going to be of a lower caliber as we can see here. We are going to have fruits that will have a little less size and therefore slightly smaller than in previous years”says Damien Garrigues. However, he points out that the fruits are more fragrant. Unfortunately, partly due to the apples falling to the ground, the drop in production is expected to be 15%. However, there will be no shortages in France since the export will be less important.
