For his ex-wife, it is already a victory. For two years, Dominique Bertran has lived in fear of seeing her ex-husband get out of prison. “I always look forward to the renewal of his pre-trial detention.” In August 2020, his parents as well as the parents of Thierry Cahuzac are killed. The latter, a former technical agent at the departmental council, immediately recognizes the facts, explaining that he planned to kill them.
Now 52 years old, Thierry Cahuzac underwent a third medical expertise. The first had concluded to an alteration of discernment (he was considered partially responsible for this passage to the act, therefore judgeable). The second expertise, on the contrary, demonstrated a total abolition of discernment; according to the report, Thierry Cahuzac’s troubles did not allow him to be tried in court. But a counter-expertise requested by the civil parties now reveals, like the first, a simple alteration of discernmentpaving the way for a trial before an assize court.
Narcissism, psychorigidity and paranoid delusions
According to Me Philippe Capcie, lawyer for the ex-wife of Thierry Cahuzac and his children, the expertise demonstrates “narcissistic personality disorders, linked to psychorigidity, all associated with a mental illness, paranoid delirium”. Thierry Cahuzac is therefore considered by this expert report as partially responsible for his actions.
For Dominique Bertran, who lost her parents, and for her daughter Laura Cahuzac, who therefore lost her four grandparents, the latest expertise is greeted with relief.
“This is someone dangerous and unstableexplains Laura. For our safety, we could not accept that there was no trial. It is very important for us, to be able to rebuild. We want to bring to justice all the harm he did to us and to my grandparents.”
“We took life. We have no life left. So we are waiting for this trial.”
Dominique Bertran, ex-wife of Thierry Cahuzac
According to his daughter and ex-wife, Thierry Cahuzac’s troubles are not new. “There have been many antecedents up to the drama of 2020remembers Dominique Bertran. Like when he tried to kill me in 2011. But at the time, there was no follow-up and he never agreed to seek treatment.”
Thierry Cahuzac, him, don’t consider yourself ill. Through the voice of his lawyers, he describes a very different conception of justice. “He legitimizes his actsays Me Anaïs Lebeaux. For him, justice has been done and he has finished his mission on earth. It doesn’t matter to him that men will judge him. But this reality is obviously inaudible to ordinary mortals.
The trial date is not yet known.
