In Chaplyne, a city in southeastern Ukraine, strikes near the railway station killed 25 people, including civilians, on Wednesday August 24.

In Chaplyne (Ukraine), five cars of a passenger train were bombarded on the evening of Wednesday August 24 by a Russian missile attack. A few meters away is a car. Five civilians were on board at the time of the strike, including a child. All were killed. Dozens of people were also on the train, including soldiers, according to several testimonies. Facing the rails, several houses were destroyed. Some residents are traumatized.

A woman, who works in the railway station located less than 800 meters away, is, like her neighbor, used to seeing soldiers on the line. “These soldiers were in transit, and they were going to be transferred somewhere”, she says. The line and the station are an important railway junction for the region, and for transporting combatants. The loss of soldiers in the strike is a sensitive subject, on which the local authorities do not wish to communicate. On the other hand, they express themselves on the number of civilian houses blown up in the village. Eight missiles fell. The Russians assure that the train was military.
