The driver who killed little Adam a year ago in Montpellier arrested while trying to flee to Morocco

The 35-year-old driver who had knocked down and killed a 9-year-old boy a year ago on Avenue de Monsieur-Teste in Montpellier, was arrested on Thursday morning by the air and border police at Montpellier airport. Marseilles whilehe was trying to catch a plane, heading for Morocco.

He had just been released. Not because or his lawyer had requested it, but as a result of a judicial oversight.

A tragedy that had moved an entire neighborhood

The drama of August 21, 2021 has remained in many memories. Because of the death of Adam, 9 years old. But his mother and his little sister, aged 8, were also seriously injured in the accident.

Two months after the accident, a white step had been organized, in homage to the little boy.

The man, whose car had mowed down the family before ending its race against a wall, on avenue de Monsieur-Teste in Montpellier, was driving at that time with a rate of 0.90 g of alcohol in the blood.

He had therefore been imprisoned and indicted for homicide and involuntary injuries aggravated by three circumstances.

But last Monday, he was released from prison. As his trial date has still not been set, he has been automatically releasedwith the obligation to point to the Béziers police station.

On Tuesday, he did not show up. This Thursday morning, the air and border police arrested him at Marseille airport as he was preparing to leave the territory for Morocco.

He is summoned this Thursday evening before the judge of freedom and detention responsible for ruling on the revocation or not of his judicial control.
