He knows he won’t be able to revolutionize everything, but Sébastien Monnier is proud to lead this club, which he “dreamed of as a kid” so much.
“Mondeville, for me, is the flagship of Normandy basketball training. Being myself very strongly attached to training, being asked today by Mondeville to set up their project is a source of great pride.” , he says.
If the club called on him, it is also thanks to his expertise. President of the Pays d’Auge Basket for ten years, Sébastien Monnier knows very well how a basketball club worksespecially Norman.
Two years to professionalize the club
At the heart of a project called “ambition 2024”, Sébastien Monnier will have several missions with one final goal: to further professionalize the club and prepare it for the rise in the women’s basketball league. In particular, communication will have to be improved, he says:
“We need to recreate the link between all the players in the club, whether managers, employees, volunteers. We want to eventually find stability in our organization, so that each player can identify with the project”.
The “fan” experience will also be improved. A project that will therefore be carried out over 2 years, with a lot of work. However, he remains confident:
“There is a whole team of managers, employees and volunteers who are motivated to develop the club. Mondeville is not starting from scratch. There is an important legacy and it is on the contrary galvanizing to see where we can take this club .”
Find more partners
New projects which therefore promise a new “era” at the USO Mondeville club. Finances will have to be secured. Currently with a budget of 1.2 million eurosgetting into the women’s basketball league would mean having to increase the budget by 30%. Olivier Liberge, the president of the club insists on the need to find more sponsors:
“The funding comes from the town hall, the region, the department, but also the partners. To USOM, we have 70% institutions and 30% partners. To go to a high level, we must have the opposite. We must encourage more companies to join us, finding new partners is a daily task, this had not been done until now.”
