The Economic Development Agency of Canada for Southern Ontario has indicated that it will subsidize the national federation to the tune of 4.4 million.
This amount will be used for the Canadian Open, women’s and men’s. Both tournaments had been canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19.
Mona Fortier, President of the Treasury Board and Member of Parliament for Ottawa-Vanier, indicated that this investment will help the two tournaments to come back “even stronger” in addition to creating “significant financial benefits”.
The Men’s Canadian Open was held in Toronto in early June. The Women’s Open is played in Ottawa this weekend.
The men’s tournament is usually played in the Toronto area, while the women’s tournament travels across the country. The tournament will take place next year in Vancouver.
