Will the city of Valence have to cancel the sale of its municipal land to the Muslim school? In any case, this is what the prefect asks the mayor. Last July the controversy had swelled around this school out of contract, suspected of links with the movement of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Bruno Casari, one of the opposition municipal councilors who voted against during the deliberation, seized the prefect on the legality of this sale. He was worried because the school is out of contract, therefore according to him not supervised by the National Education.
The prefect’s response arrived in the middle of August, she only responds to a technical point. According to her, the land is part of the public domain and therefore cannot be sold “just like that”. Consequently, she invites the mayor to have the deliberation withdrawn from the sale. But the representative of the State in the Drôme never addresses the delicate question of the possible links of the school with the Islamist movement. She never even mentions the buyer of the land.
It’s an elegant way of saying: Mr. Daragon, review your copy and therefore in effect offer a solution so that it goes back to the city council – Bruno Casari elected opposition member in Valencia
“Finely played” to get the mayor to reconsider his decision, believes the opposition politician: “I think that Madame la Préfète’s strength is to be elegant. The land is public land, so Mr. Daragon cannot sell it like that. And in fact, it’s more to explain to us that she doesn’t agree with this sale. Now it’s up to Mr. Daragon to take responsibility. Everyone makes mistakes. The problem is when you’re wrong about things as important as secularism.”
Project review
The city of Valence confirms “having received from the prefect a free appeal on a point of procedure” but also specifies that the state services have sent “other documents which call for a re-examination of the project”. Should we understand that these are documents related to the suspicions launched against the school? Perhaps, in any case the opposition expects a debate during the municipal council on October 3rd.
