Ukraine: Canada announces new sanctions against Russia

Canada will impose new sanctions on 62 close associates of the Russian regime and provides funding of $3.85 million to support two Ukrainian projects.

Among those sanctioned are senior Russian government officials, including Russian federal governors and regional heads, their family members and senior officials from defense sector entities currently under sanctions.

These new sanctions also concern an entity in the defense sector

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also announced $3.85 million in funding to support two Ukrainian projects under the Stabilization and Peace Operations Program, which provides assistance to sector institutions security in Ukraine.

Canada also wants to continue “to combat Russian state-sponsored disinformation” by creating a specialized team to understand, monitor and detect this disinformation in order to respond to it quickly.

These announcements were made on Tuesday morning during the virtual Summit of Heads of State and Government of the International Platform for Crimea.
