The legendary couple of French cinema, Fanny Ardant and Gérard Depardieu, star in Jean Becker’s latest film, “Les Volets Verts”.
A horizon of death taking shape, an aging actor who has consumed all that life has offered him. Gérard Depardieu embodies an alcoholic and disillusioned Jules Mongin, faced with a passion that has died out. “I think I’m a bit the same: unable to leave. You can’t leave someone you loved”, says the actor. From Truffaut’s masterpiece The woman next doorFanny Ardant and Gérard Depardieu forever symbolize mad love.
Forty years later, here they are again, immersed in an impossible love story, in the film The Green Shutters. “They are both passionate about their job, and at the same time the more they deviate, the more they come back. I really liked this relationship of mad love and waste”, says Fanny Ardant. The film is an adaptation of a novel by Georges Simenon, written in 1950. To 89 years old, Jean Becker adapts it to the cinema, with Gérard Depardieu as evidence. “He is certainly the greatest actor of this century”says the director. A story full of melancholy, in which we take two sacred monsters of French cinema.
