Manon Hostens returns from Munich without a medal around her neck. After its success at the downhill world championships in the spring and its K2 final at the sprint world championships in Canada, the Périgourdine could be ambitious for these European road race championships. She finally leaves with two finals but no charm. This Sunday, the kayaker finished 7th in the K4 event over 500 meters, with her three teammates Margaux Briswalter, Léa Jamelot and Vanina Paoletti. She crossed the line in 1’39″17, almost four seconds behind the winners, the Poles.
Seventh in the final in K4 500 meters
“I’m quite satisfied, we did some full races, confides the Périgourdine. On the K2 we made a better place than at the worlds, it’s good to repeat such a performance and on the K4 we were able to get out of the game. Afterwards it’s sure that these are not podiums but you can’t have any regrets. We just have to go back to training to come back even stronger.”
The French had qualified with style on Friday, they had finished second in their race. They started quickly in the final, among the top three on the first lap, before losing ground over the course of the race. The day before, Saturday, Manon Hostens finished 6th in the final of the K2 event over 500 meters, with her teammate Léa Jamelot.
It was the last race of his season, before a well-deserved vacation. The kayaker has planned sporting holidays: 250 kilometers by bike between Paris and Etretat in one day, before resuming training in mid-September.
