It was one of the first high schools of a vast project which wanted all the high schools for boarders in the capital to be transported to the countryside.

The town of Sceaux was built around its church in the 12th century. Colbert made Sceaux one of the jewels of French architecture and great gardens : he bought the castle then he destroyed and rebuilt it. He wanted to build a very beautiful home by entrusting the design of his garden to André Le Nôtre.
