“New Rameau Symphony”, Marc Minkowski

When he was a headliner in the Archiv catalogue, Marc Minkowski had recorded one of his most beautiful and memorable records with the Musiciens du Louvre: Rameau, an imaginary symphony (2005). Others have tried to imitate this initiative, notably Teodor Currentzis in a staggering Branch. The Sound of Light (2014), confusing energy and brutality, spirit and base instincts. For the 40th anniversary of the Musicians of the Louvre, Minkowski offers us a splendid new ramist journey, full of glorious sounds and nourished by an assiduous frequentation of the composer. Despite the title New symphony, the excerpts are no longer arranged pell-mell in a giant suite. These are selected pieces from Castor and Pollux, Zoroaster, The Paladins, Les Indes galantes, Acanthus and Cephisa, The Birth of Osiris, Dardanus and Pygmalion, grouped by works and this time involving the voice of baritone Florian Sempey. Ramist happiness, to find gathered such a skilful selection, but without the vertigo and the surprise of the CD Archiv.
