With gigantic fires in the north and east of the country, at least 38 people have been killed and 200 injured in Algeria. Since the beginning of August, the fires have dissolved more than 2,000 hectares of forest.

In this video, one of the violent forest fires currently raging in northeastern Algeria. This Wednesday, dozens of people died in forest fires that affected 14 departments in northern Algeria. Despite all the human and material resources deployed, 45 other victims suffered from respiratory problems or burns.

Associations have taken the initiative to help the victims by distributing more than 20,000 tonnes of foodstuffs. Each year, the north of the country is affected by forest fires, a phenomenon which is accentuated under the effect of global warming. But Interior Minister Kamel Beldjoud says the forest fires would also be partly caused. These fires are a disaster for Algeria which is one of the most extensive countries in Africa but which has four times less forest than in France.
