The Canadian Union of Public Employees on Thursday signed a new collective agreement for its some 26,000 members of the health and social services network in Quebec.
The new agreement will come into effect as of Sunday, according to the union affiliated with the Federation of Workers of Quebec (FTQ).
Under the terms of the new agreement, salary increases of 2% per year are expected, until March 31, 2023.
A new salary architecture will be implemented in the third year of the agreement to initiate a significant catch-up for low salaries.
Despite these hard-won gains, union officials have their eyes riveted on the process of the next negotiation.
“The network is still very badly in shape and there will be many other corrections to be made so that the working conditions are finally good and that all the positions are attractive”, qualified Maxime Ste-Marie, Chairman of the Board. provincial social affairs (CPAS-SCFP).
“To really get the network back on track, the government will need to find several other fundamental and lasting solutions. To get there, he will have no choice but to work patiently with us and listen to the needs of workers, ”said Karine Cabana, CUPE union advisor and CPAS coordinator.
